Only the good die young........

What the fuck?? That was my initial reaction when I first heard the news about Heath Ledgers untimely death. I was actually shocked and saddend by this. I know the world will remember him for his questionable choice in movie roles (Brokeback Mountain) , but it was this movie that brought Mr. Ledger out of obscurity and into my dvd collection. I remember the first time I saw this movie.[Ten things I hate about you] I was on a recruiting visit to Texas A&M. Me and my best friend at the time, took our "booze money" and just went to the movies. [Ya, I know, we were pretty lame in those days. Instead of gettin drunk & chasing tale, we went to the movies like a couple of homos. ] Anyway, I remember feeling so gay for watching this at first. I really wasnt into "white movies" or anything where there were limited signs of blackness. I guess I was stuck in highschool "affraid to be different" mode. My friend Brandon (Big white boy), convinced me to try this type of movie out & im really glad I listened to him. Ten Things I Hate About You is a Shakespearean adaptation of The Taming of the Shrew set in an American high school. This movie isnt a classic by Gary Cogill standards, but I remember watching this movie and thinking "this aint so bad." I even enjoyed the ska/ rock bands that were featured throughout the movie. Pretty much, this was the first "against my norm" experience & the fact that it was different and I actually liked it, really helped me do things outside my comfort zone. I guess because I was in highschool at the time, I was able to relate to alot of what was in the movie. It just worked for me. I like to think that because I watched this movie, I was able to have an open mind about other films, other types of music & other things that are "against my norm". Damn man, he was really good in this movie. Cant believe this dude is dead. There are times in your life where you can hear a song, see a movie/actor & you can identify with them, because you you were exposed to those things at a significat ponit in your life. Im proud to say that I can do that with this movie & this actor. This was a truly gifted actor and his talents will be missed. May he rest in perfect peace. Cant wait to see the "Dark Knight" this summer, dont sleep on that one. From what ive seen & read, Ledger's portrayal of Joker is the stuff of legend....

Till next time.......
